The Touch Rugby Club flourished in 2006. It was invloved in two very successful tours, firstly, a mixed touch tour to Durban during the
September vac which involved four male players and 7 ladies. The tour was a fantastic growth period for the side that had hardly played
together but, despite this fact, managed to win 5/7 games against the top touch sides in durban. This has secured that mixed touch will
be an increasingly popular sport at Rhodes this year and, the sides will be entering tournaments as a result of the success they
enjoyed in 2006. The ladies side in 2006 involved a group of fun loving individuals who competed extremely well at IPT in Cape
Town. The side came second in the U21 category and won all their games in the U18 category. Ladies Touch continues to gain
interest and is a sport that is taking off at Rhodes.

Hopefully the exposure gained by the success of the Touch Rugby Tournament held in O-Week will encourage both male and female
individuals to come and share the fun and comaradaie offered by joining Touch Rugby.

The Touch Rugby Club has now merged with the RURFC which is an exciting new adventure.
This aims to add to the organisation and promotion of the sport at Rhodes.

In Conclusion, a big thank you must be given to Powerade for their sponsorship
and continued support to Rhodes Touch Rugby.

Ladies' Touch Rugby Coach

For the second year running, I will be coaching the ladies' touch rugby at Rhodes. This is a thoroughly enjoyable job for me as all the girls that come down form the most fantastic friendship amoung each other and furthermore, grow to love touch rugby and the comaraderie involved with the sport.

I would like to encourage any lady to come get involved with Rhodes Touch Rugby no matter what skill level you are. The beginning of the year is fantastic for girls that have never played before as it gives them a chance to develop and grow along with the other ladies in a similar situation.

There will be two tours during the course of the year. Firstly a mixed touch tour with guys and girls to either Cape Town, Durban or Jo'burg and secondly, an all ladies' side that participates in the IPT (Inter-Provincial Tournament) later on on the year. From past experiences, the girls love these opportunities to tour with there mates and I will post photos shortly to illustrate how much fun is had!

Hope to see you all at sign-up/practice!

Website Creation

The creation of this website aims to communicate information regarding the club, advertise up coming games/events and post pictures. It will also hopefully provide greater awareness of the club at Rhodes and be a site that can be both informative and entertaining. Hope you enjoy and find the website useful! Dave - Rugby Comm 2008
